THE 22075VIC CERTIFICATE II IN AUSLAN  PREPARES  STUDENTS FOR  SIMPLE  COMMUNICATION WITH DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING INDIVIDUALS OR GROUPS IN THE DEAF COMMUNITY.

Students may be parents, family members or friends of a deaf person seeking to improve Course Flyer_CertIICairns_S217_V1their communication skills, or social, community, education or health sector employees wishing to improve their communication with deaf consumers or colleagues, in addition to gaining further knowledge of Deaf history and culture.

This course is designed to provide training in signing in a range of everyday social, employment and personal contexts, and includes an understanding of Deaf community principles and practices.

It teaches participants how to give routine information in Auslan in a number of contexts, identify principle characteristics of Auslan signs, and describe generally the cultural and historical trends and issues of the Deaf community.

37 new recruits started at Yarrabah Aboriginal Shire Council on Tuesday 4 April, 2017 to assist with spending $2.81Million on Infrastructure projects in Yarrabah for Works 4 Queensland Program.

Thank you for the State Government for this Job Creation Program. All works will be undertaken by these Local Men and Women. Projects include community Fencing upgrades, Footpath and Draining Maintenance, Upgrades at Jilara Oval, new playgrounds and a BMX track.

‘NAIDOC DAY’ Community Event Planning Meeting will be held at the IKC Building on Monday 15th May 2017.

Yarrabah Aboriginal Shire Council is hosting the Yarrabah NAIDOC Planning meeting on Monday 15th May 2017.

The meeting will kick off at 2pm and is being held in the Yarrabah IKC Building.  The purpose of the meeting is to come together and start working on a draft timetable and to share ideas for NAIDOC 2017 celebrations in Yarrabah.

The theme has already been chosen for this year, ‘Our Languages Matter—aims to emphasise and celebrate the unique and essential role that languages play in cultural
identity, lining people to their land and water and in transmission of ATSI history, spiritually and rites, through story & song’.

Expressions of Interest: the Yarrabah Arts & Cultural Precinct is seeking applicants/participants within the local community that would like to be considered for training in the Arts Industry.

Yarrabah Arts and Cultural Precinct will be conducting career development workshops from May through to September for any local community members that may be interested and wanting to develop a career in the Visual Arts Industry.

Limited  participants.

Workshop includes:

  • Arts Business Workshop * Identify Suitable Micro Business Training *Computer Training
  • Painting
  • Drawing
  • Screen Printing
  • Print Making

Materials for these workshops are supplied by the Arts & Cultural Precinct under Council arts policy agreement.

Arts Business Workshops are in partnership with the Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation and UMI ARTS Limited.

Headspace Cairns Swim, Surf and Splash Party at Tobruk Pool – signed permission slips due 30th March

Hey Everyone

headspace Cairns is hosting a Swim, Surf & Splash Pool Party.

The event celebrates National Youth Week and headspace Cairns 5th Birthday.

So there are twice as many reasons to celebrate!!!

Come along and have a go on the wave rider, obstacle course or just swim and chill with friends.

Date:  2nd of April 2017

Time: 1pm – 5pm

Ages: 12-25 years old

Price: completely FREE!!

Transport:  10:30am from Yarrabah School: – Headspace also have a 55 seater bus to take those children who are interested in going and have filled out the bus permission form.

Permission slips and Waiver Forms:  

Young people under the age of 18 must submit a completed parent/guardian permission / Consent form (attached) and return to your school office by Thursday 30th March 2016.

Young people under the age of 18 will also need to have a signed waiver form from a parent or guardian to use the Flow Rider (attached).
